A part of a special traveling network which once connected most of our galaxy. Some of the Beacons still exists scattered throughout the galaxy (one is found in the Alpha Centauri system), but their usage in traveling is extremely dangerous after the departure of the Ancients. The main beacon is situated at Thyrion and it said that it won't be reactivated, until the Ancients return.
