The volume of natural gas that when burned produces the same amount of heat as a barrel of oil (typical conversion 6,000 ft3of gas equals one barrel of oil), typically: 6:1.
(boe) The amount of energy contained in a barrel of crude oil, i.e. approximately 6.1 GJ (5.8 million Btu), equivalent to 1,700 kWh. A "petroleum barrel" is a liquid measure equal to 42 U.S. gallons (35 Imperial gallons or 159 liters); about 7.2 barrels are equivalent to one tonne of oil (metric).
