Definitions for "Backbearing"
Navigation technique for determining your position by taking compass bearings to identifiable features you can both see on a map and on the ground. You take a bearing to an identifiable feature, and then draw a line on the map which passes through the feature along the bearing you just took. Repeat the procedure with another identifiable feature (preferably at 90 degrees to the first) and where the two lines on the map cross is your position.
