René d'Herblay 'Aramis' is a fictional character in the novels The Three Musketeers, Twenty Years After and The Vicomte de Bragelonne by Alexandre Dumas. He and the other two musketeers Athos and Porthos are friends of the novel's protagonist, d'Artagnan.
The Aramis personal rapid transit project in Paris, by aerospace giant Matra, started in 1967, spent about 500 million francs, and was cancelled when it failed its qualification trials in November 1987.
