A hormone formed by beta cells in the pancreas. Amylin regulates the timing of glucose release into the bloodstream after eating by slowing the emptying of the stomach.
A beta-cell hormone that is co-located and co-secreted with insulin. It is deficient in type 1 and late-stage type 2 diabetes and it plays a role in reducing postprandial glucose excursions.
Amylin, or Islet Amyloid Polypeptide (IAPP), is a 37-residue peptide hormone secreted by pancreatic β-cells at the same time as insulin (in a roughly 100:1 ratio).
