Velocity of a vehicle relative to the surrounding air
The speed of an aircraft relative to its surrounding air mass. The unqualified term "airspeed" means one of the following: (1) Indicated airspeed - The speed shown on the aircraft airspeed indicator. (2) True airspeed - The airspeed of an aircraft relative to undisturbed air. Used primarily in flight planning and en route portion of flight. When used in pilot/controller communications, it is referred to as "true airspeed" and not shortened to "airspeed".
Speed of an airplane. (Deduct 25% when listening to a Navy pilot. Disregard entirely when talking to an ultralight pilot).
Speed of an airplane. Deduct 25% when listening to a Navy pilot (see "Calendar" for A-10).
The speed of your craft in the air. If the air is moving while you are moving through it, then your ground speed will differ, either greater or less depending if you are flying with or against the moving air. The typical flight speed of a Powered Paraglider is around 25 MPH.
speed at which a glider passes through the air.
Aircraft wind prior to it being affected by winds aloft. If there is a headwind of 20 knots, and the plane is flying at an airspeed of 300 knots, the groundspeed will be 280 knots. (Pilots actively chase tail winds to push the aircraft faster)
The speed of a flying object through the air, commonly used in reference to aircraft or canopies.
Speed of aircraft in the air
Speed of the aircraft relative to the air through which it is moving.
