Advanced cancer usually means a cancer that has spread from where it started to another part of the body. 'Locally advanced' cancer usually means the cancer has grown outside the organ that it started in and into neighbouring body tissues.
A phrase used at the point of initial diagnosis. It means the cancer has begun to grow into nearby tissue (invasive cancer) or has spread elsewhere (metastases have formed).
Cancer that has spread to other parts of the body and/or is unlikely to be cured.
