A geographic area designated by the provincial government for administrative purposes. The criteria for the formation of administrative regions are not clearly defined. The areas are now being used as a basis for the development and application of regional planning policies. There are 16 Administrative Regions in Quebec. Each one has a name and a number. These areas are made to coincide with the MRC's or Municipalité Régionale de Comté.
