Automated Astrophysical Site Testing Observatory. Jointly owned by UNSW and the Australian National University, the AASTO is operated in Antarctica under a collaboration with CARA. Its purpose is to pioneer astronomy at remote sites on the Antarctic plateau by measuring the properties of the atmosphere over potential sites.
