is the label given to the party and the government of Germany by National Socialist German Workers' party in the Third Reich. Nazi theory and practice was founded on beliefs about the superiority of the German race and instituted a totalitarian regime with total control by the government over industry and individual rights.
acronym from Nationalsozialistische Deutsche Arbeiterpartei (NSDAP), the National Socialist German Workers' Party
National Socialist German Workers' Party - the political party which emerged in Munich after World War I. The party was taken over by Adolph Hitler in the early 1920's. He created the SA (Storm Troopers, also known as "Brownshirts") in 1921 and chose the swastika as the party's symbol.
Refers to World War II; not part of the American experience: a real turn-off to veterans. Suggests subversion or anti-Americanism. Avoid it entirely. Denounce it, but only if context absolutely requires it (it's best to be on the offensive, not to allow yourself to be put on the defensive); (similar words: fascism, swastika, Hitler and National Socialist).
