Makkah is the seat of Islam, a city in present-day Saudi Arabia. Muslims from all over the world gather in Makkah around the year for pilgrimage - during specific times of the year - and worship. This city is also known as Mecca.

In 630 C.E., after the Quraysh violated a peace treaty, Muhammad marched on Makkah and gained control of the city peacefully, thereafter clearing the Kaâ€(tm)bah of idols and reintegrating the city into the fold of Islam.
