A movement in which the working leg is drawn up to the knee of the supporting leg and from there smoothly out to a position in the air, usually at 90 degrees (i.e., parallel to the floor). See 'Definitions of Dance Terms' video
The unfolding of a leg into an open position in the air.
The unfolding of the leg, accomplished by slowly bending and then straightening the knee as the leg is raised in an extension (to the front, side, or back) from the floor.
A smooth, gradual unfolding of the leg toward the front, side or back.
To unfold and hold
This is a ballet and gymnastics dance movement. A développé is done by drawing the toe of the gesture leg (which bends at the knee and hip) up the front, side, or back of the supporting leg, until it reaches knee height. It is then developed (unfolded) to its full extension, either to the front, side or back of the gymnast's body.
