the sacculated elevations of the colon
colon recesses or sacculations caused by contractions of the teniae coli and circular muscle.( More? GIT Notes)
Latin = saccules.
Sacculations in the wall of the colon between the teniae. image
Saclike pouches along the length of the large intestine that result from tension in the taenia coli.
Constrictive contractions of large bowel muscle, effectively dividing colon into compartments.
The haustra of the colon are the small pouches caused by "sacculation", which give the colon its segmented appearance. The taenia coli runs the length of the large intestine. Because the taenia coli is shorter than the intestine, the colon become sacculated between the taenia, forming the haustra.
