American religious movement

radical African-American religious group advocating some racial separation and threatening violence to white society.

A term designating African-Americans who adhere to the teachings of the organization known as the Nation of Islam. So-called "Black Muslims" are not to be confused with Muslims (followers of universal Islam) of African-American or African origin. Likewise, the Nation of Islam, a nationalistic organization, is not to be confused with the mainstream, universal world religion Islam.

The Black Muslims is a common name for the Nation of Islam, a religious movement among black Americans that emphasizes self-sufficiency, self-help, and separation from white society.

Black Muslims may refer to a number of different religious and ethnic groups.
