One of the twelve minor prophets, his ministry took place during the reign of Josiah (640-609 BCE), King of Judah. The two main themes of his prophecy are the Day of the Lord, and a reproach and promise for Jerusalem.

Zephaniah or Tzfanya (צְפַנְיָה "Concealed of/is the LORD", Standard Hebrew , Tiberian Hebrew ) is the name of several people in the Bible Old Testament and Jewish Tanakh. He is also called Sophonias as in the New Catholic Encyclopaedia and in Easton's [Bible] Dictionary.
