A stroke; a blow.
The extreme movement given to a sliding or vibrating reciprocating piece by a cam, crank, eccentric, or the like; travel; stroke; as, the throw of a slide valve. Also, frequently, the length of the radius of a crank, or the eccentricity of an eccentric; as, the throw of the crank of a steam engine is equal to half the stroke of the piston.

An illegal stroke in which the shuttle is not hit, but caught and held on the racket before being released; also called a "carry" or "sling".
The distance from the centerline of the crankshaft or main shaft to the centerline of the crankpin or eccentric in crank or eccentric presses. Equal to one half of the stroke. See also crank press and eccentric press.
