An imaginary monster, or hideous giant of fairy tales, who lived on human beings; hence, any frightful giant; a cruel monster.
Large beast-like men with low intelligence that roam within many legends. More akin to trolls and giants, these creatures are often battled by heros and are known to be evil. It is said they enjoy the taste of man. (Some have notified me that this picture is a troll...if anyone has a good picture of an Ogre please send it to me.)
a cruel wicked and inhuman person
(folklore) a giant who likes to eat human beings

a man-eating giant

Ogre is a board wargame first released in 1977, as the first Metagaming Microgame by Steve Jackson and has been reprinted many times since, most recently in 2000. After he founded his own company, Steve Jackson Games, Ogre and its sequel, G.E.V., were published there, along with further expansions. It is an asymmetric-forces hex-map game set in the late 21st century pitting one player's giant unmanned robot tank against the other player's headquarters defended by a mixture of conventional tanks, infantry, and artillery.
In the Dungeons & Dragons role-playing game, ogres are a lesser race of giants, rather being simply large brutes with clubs. An aquatic subrace of ogres is known as "Merrow". D&D ogres are also closely related to the race of ogre magi, a race with blue skin and great magical abilities.
