In Greek mythology, Electra was daughter of Agamemnon and Clytemnestra.
Electra or Elektra is a Greek tragic play by Sophocles. We do not know its date, but various stylistic similarities with the Philoctetes (409 BC) and the Oedipus at Colonus (401 BC) lead scholars to suppose that it was written towards the end of Sophocles' career.
The Pleiad Electra of Greek mythology was one of the seven daughters of Atlas and Pleione. These seven sisters are associated with the Pleiades star cluster.
Euripides' Electra was probably written in the mid 410s BC, likely after 413 BC. It is unclear whether it was first produced before or after Sophocles' version of the Electra story.
Electra is one of the nine brightest stars in the Pleiades star cluster, in the constellation of Taurus. The most visible stars in this group are named for the Seven Sisters of Greek mythology: Asterope, Merope, Electra, Maia, Taygete, Celaeno and Alcyone, along with their parents Atlas and Pleione. Electra is also referred to by its Flamsteed designation: 17 Tauri.
