The Commonwealth of Independent States (see also NIS and former Soviet Union). The term generally refers to the countries which used to be part of the Soviet Union, with the exception of the Baltics: Moldova, Ukraine, Belarus, Russia, Georgia, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, and Kazakhstan.
