XMPP is an acronym for Extensible Messaging and Presence Protocol. XMPP is a formalization of the core Jabber protocols produced by the XMPP Working Group within the Internet Engineering Task Force. The XMPP specifications are fully backwards-compatible with the existing Jabber network and were adapted from the core Jabber protocols in order to meet the highest standards of security and internationalization.
