vendor support program. an advertising and promotion program initiated by a retailer and offered by the retailer to a manufacturer (i.e., vendor) to get it to participate in the campaign and to pay a portion of the media cost; retailer and local media generally cooperate by jointly planning and designing the campaign proposal. In contrast to cooperative advertising, which is initiated by the manufacturer. See cooperative advertising.
