Definitions for "Voltage Rating"
The maximum voltage at which a given cable or insulated conductor may be safely maintained during continuous use in a normal manner. It is also called working voltage.
The highest voltage that may be continuously applied to a cable construction in conformance with standards or specifications.
The highest voltage that may be continuously applied to a wire or cord in conformance with standards or specifications.
The recommended operating voltage for a lamp. For example, a 120 volt lamp operated at 125 volts will lose 40 percent of its lamp life; conversely, operating that lamp at 115 volts will virtually double its life.
A rating of the voltage at which a piece of equipment is designed to operate.
