Unit Power Density. A measure of efficiency commonly applied as a means to evaluate the electrical power consumed by the rated lamp input power of a lighting system intending to illuminate a specific area. This metric is commonly expressed as watts per square or linear foot. UPD is the same as lighting power density (LPD) used in some energy codes and standards.
