An unofficial transcript is an uncertified copy of the student's academic record which is provided at no cost. Unofficial transcripts also include additional information such as: line numbers, restricted withdrawal counts, note records regarding grade changes, semester GPA's and probation/disqualification status.

A transcript is unofficial if you have opened an official one, or if it's just a list of your courses with the corresponding grades and credit hours that you requested from the university or downloaded off the Web.

If graduate schools or employers require your transcript, they usually need an official transcript.
