There are 12 people on a jury trial, except when the parties in civil or misdemeanor cases agree that there may be fewer than 12. A decision is unanimous when the full jury have agreed upon the verdict. Once a verdict has been reached, the jury is brought back into the courtroom. The verdict must be in writing, signed by the foreperson, and must be read to the jury by the court clerk or the judge.
