Tape Volume Cache. The RAID DASD in the VTS that is where current data resides. It is logically between the physical tape cartridges and the host channels. New logical tape volumes (VTV) are written from host channels to this DASD. Existing volumes are read from this DASD, potentially after being recalled from real tape (MVC).
