Tulloch is considered to be among the top three champion Australian thoroughbred racehorses of all time. Bred in New Zealand, the bay or brown colt by Khorassan out of the Salmagundi mare Florida was foaled in 1954. Tulloch won at distances from 5 furlongs (1000 m) to 2 miles (3200 m) and established Australian records at 10 furlongs (1960 Cox Plate) and 12 furlongs (1957 Caulfield Cup), and took 2 seconds off Phar Lap's 28 year old record for the AJC Derby.
