Definitions for "TeraGrid"
TeraGrid is an open scientific discovery infrastructure, launched by the National Science Foundation in August 2001, combining leadership class resources at eight partner sites to create an integrated, persistent computational resource. TeraGrid is coordinated through the Grid Infrastructure Group (GIG) at the University of Chicago.
A multi-year effort to build and deploy the world's largest, fastest, distributed infrastructure for open scientific research. When completed, the TeraGrid will include 20 Teraflops of computational power, 1 Petabyte of data, and various high-resolution visualization environments connected by a 40 Gigabits/second network. (Also referred to as the Distributed Terascale Facility [DTF] and the Extensible Terascale Facility [ETF].)
