Tamworth is an historic town and local government district in Staffordshire, England, located 27 km (17 miles) north-east of Birmingham and 198 km (123 miles) north-west of London. The town gained its name from the River Tame, which flows through the town, as does the River Anker. At the 2001 census the town had a population of 74,531.
