switched virtual circuits. A virtual connection set up on demand via a signaling protocol.
Virtual connection between two variable endpoints on the network. The switch makes at the beginning of the call, and breaks at the end of the call. A frame relay and ATM networking term.
A connection established via signaling. The user defines the endpoints when the call is initiated.
Virtual circuit that is dynamically established on demand and is torn down when transmission is complete. SVCs are used in situations where data transmission is sporadic. Called a switched virtual connection in ATM terminology.
Switched Virtual Circuits. virtual link, with variable end-points, established through an ATM network. With a SVC, when the call is initiated, the use r defines the end-points that are subsequently terminated at the end of the call. With a Private Virtual Circuit (PVC), the end-points are predefined by the network manager. A single virtual path may support multiple SVCs.
switched virtual circuit. A connection established dynamically between devices on an ATM network through the use of signaling.
Switched Virtual Circuit. A temporary logical connection in a packet switched network.
A temporary virtual circuit between two users.
Switched Virtual Circuit - A connection where control signalling is used to dynamically establish the connection and remove it when no longer required. For example, telephone lines, ISDN and X.25.
Switched virtual circuit. On-demand connection between an ATM or frame relay source and destination that lasts for the duration of the transmission.
switched virtual circuit. In packet switching, SVC gives the user the appearance of an actual connection. An SVC is dynamically established when needed.
Switched Virtual Circuit A path over a packet-switched network that appears to be a dedicated circuit, but in fact the connection only stays up as long as needed, and then ends.
switched virtual circuit. An X.25 term indicating that the logical connection is temporary (like a telephone call). Contrast with permanent virtual circuit.
switched virtual circuit. A virtual circuit connection established across a network on an as-needed basis and lasting only for the duration of the transfer. It is the datacom equivalent of a dialed phone call. The specific path provided in support of the SVC is determined on a call-by-call basis and in consideration of both the end points and the level of congestion in the network. SVCs are used extensively in X.25 networks. SVCs also are provided for in Frame Relay network theory, but have not been implemented, because permanent virtual circuits (PVCs) provide the same function and are much less complex to provision. See also permanent virtual circuit .
Switched Virtual Circuit A term found in frame relay and ATM networking in which a virtual connection, with variable end-points, is established through an ATM network at the time the call is begun; the SVC is de-established at the conclusion of the call. See also Permanent Virtual Circuit.
(1) Switched Video Conferencing Service. (2) Switched Virtual Circuit. A connectionless means of addressing a data communication on a call-by-call basis. (7/96)
A logical connection between two points that is established dynamically and exists during transmission only. In ATM networks, the SVC connection is established via signaling. End systems transmit their UNI 3.1 or 4.0 signaling request via the Q.2931 signaling protocol.
Switched Virtual Circuit. A channel established on demand that is used for transferring information between two locations. The connection is established by network signalling, and lasts only for the duration of the transfer. It is the data communications equivalent of a dialed phone call.
Switched Virtual Circuit is an L2TP-compatible media on top of which L2TP is directly encapsulated. SVCs are dynamically created, permitting tunnel media to be created dynamically in response to desired LNS-LAC connectivity requirements.
See Switched Virtual Connection.
Switched Virtual Circuit. (Contrast PVC)
Switched Virtual Circuit. Allow an end-user to establish on-demand data connections between two end points on an ATM, Frame Relay, or X.25 network. See also Permanent Virtual Circuit (PVC).
Switched virtual circuit. Virtual circuit that is dynamically established on demand and that is torn down when transmission is complete.
Switched Virtual Circuit; a logical connection across a packet-switched network providing as-needed connections to any other node in the network.
A temporary virtual circuit that is set up and used only as long as data is being transmitted. Back to the TOP
Switched Virtual Circuit; a communications circuit that is established for the duration of a session and then disconnected, much like a normal voice telephone call.
Switched virtual connection. A dynamically established, software-defined logical connection that stays up as long as data is being transmitted. Once transmission is complete, the software tears down the SVC. See also PVC.
A virtual connection that is set up on a call-by-call basis.
