Ozone located in the portion of the atmosphere that is a few miles above the Earth’s surface. Ozone at this altitude filters out harmful sun rays, including those that may cause health and environmental damage.
Naturally occurring ozone (three oxygen molecules -O3) layer 9 to 30 miles above the earth's surface. It protects us from ultraviolet rays that can cause skin cancer, eye problems (cataracts), and can weaken our immune system.
ozone found in the stratosphere. Stratospheric ozone is the same chemical as ground-level ozone, but because it is high above the Earth (instead of close down, where we could breathe it), stratospheric ozone is helpful, not harmful. It protects us by blocking the most harmful rays of the sun - ultraviolet rays - which can cause skin cancer. (Back to Ozone Action! Days)
The layer of the earth's atmosphere, extending from 15 to 35 kilometers above the earth, that protects life on the planet by absorbing harmful ultra-violet rays.
The natural layer of the earth’s ozone located in the stratosphere. Here, it protects the earth and all that lies within it from the harmful effects of the sun’s ultraviolet radiation by absorbing much of it. (See also Ozone, Ground-level ozone).
