A stabilisation may occur after a new issue in accordance with FSA rules. It will entail the stabiliing manager buying shares in the market to counter selling pressure in the initial market. This stabilisation period must be fully disclosed by way of a daily notice and last for a maximum of 30 days.
After a company issues new shares the investment banks who handled the process may buy and sell shares in the following weeks in order to stablise the share price. This process, believe it or not, is known as stabilisation.
This is when an issuer that is involved in a distribution or offering of its securities buys or sells such securities in the market, in order to support the market price of those securities for a predetermined period of time.
