The point in the sky directly above the South Pole of the Earth. As the Earth turns around its axis of rotation, the sky appears to turn, in the opposite direction, about an axis through the North and South Celestial Poles.
A direction determined by the projection of the Earth's South Pole onto the celestial sphere. The SCP is exactly 180 degrees from the North Celestial Pole and corresponds to a declination of -90 degrees.
