Keywords:  himem, emm, xms, sys, archaic
An archaic disc caching program, used to speed up disc access for data retrieval. Used in conjunction with HIMEM.SYS and EMM386.EXE for memory addressing. The concept was to hold in an specially defined area of memory called a "cache", frequently used programs and data because memory is quicker than a mechanical disc drive. The advantage was approximately a 100 fold increase in speed when data was retrieved from the cache. See also HIMEM.SYS, EMM386.EXE, Disc, Cache, EMS, XMS and Memory.
