A hazardous waste generator that generates between 220 and 2,200 lbs (100 and 1,000 kg) per month of hazardous waste. SQGs must comply with general federal and state requirements for managing hazardous waste. SQGs need an EPA identification number that is used to monitor and track hazardous waste activities.
(SQG) - produces more than 100 kilograms (220-pounds) but less than 1,000 kilograms of waste per month.
typically, a business (auto repair, printing, etc.) or institution (park, school, etc.) that always generates less than 220 pounds of hazardous waste per month or 2.2 pounds of some pesticides and poisons AND accumulates less than 2200 pounds of hazardous waste or 2.2 pounds of some pesticides and poisons at any one time. Small quantity generators are subject to far fewer requirements (see QEL).
Persons who generate less than 1,000 kilograms of hazardous waste or accumulate no more than one kilogram of acutely hazardous waste in any month. SWM Rule 1200-1-11.08(5)(a).
Persons or enterprises that produce 220 - 2200 pounds per month of hazardous waste; are required to keep more records than conditionally exempt generators. The largest category of hazardous waste generators, SQGs include automotive shops, dry cleaners, photographic developers, and a host of other small businesses.
