a preliminary finding that a company may be subject to penalties for violation of a Florida Statute, a PSC rule, or a PSC order
An order from the Court requiring a party to explain why a certain thing should or should not be permitted. An example would be if a Notice of Appeal was not timely filed, the Court may issue a show cause order asking the Appellant to show why the case should not be dismissed for failure to file a timely Notice of Appeal.
An order to show cause, or a show cause order, is one means of initiating a proceeding before a court. An order to show cause is signed by a judge who thereby directs some person to appear before him or her and "show cause" to the judge as to why certain relief should not be granted to the petitioner who asked the judge to sign the order.
