A sheet of clear adhesive material printed with a pattern, which is trimmed to size and affixed to a drawing to create shading and texture effects. Screentone is used much more widely in manga than in American comics, and in Japan there is a vast variety of screentones available.
Screentone is a technique for applying textures and shades to drawings, used as an alternative to hatching. In the conventional process, patterns are transferred to paper from preprinted sheets, but the technique is also simulated in computer graphics.
