The Wych Elm U. glabra cultivar Rugosa was described by Loudon in Arb. Frut. Brit. 3: 1898 as U. montana (: glabra) var. rugosa Masters, having "dark, reddish-brown bark, cracking into short, regular pieces, very like Acer campestris; a tree of spreading growth and moderate size."
