Rotuma is a Fijian Dependency, consisting of the island of Rotuma and the nearby islets of Hatana, Hafleua, Solkope, Solnohu and Uea. These volcanic islands are located at , approximately 465 kilometers north of Fiji. Rotuma Island itself is 13 kilometers long and 4 kilometers wide, with a land area of approximately 43 square kilometers.
Rotuma Communal is an electoral division of Fiji, the sole communal constituency reserved for citizens of Rotuman descent. Its boundaries encompass the entire nation; Rotuman-descendants anywhere in Fiji are eligible to vote for, and be a candidate for, this constituency. (Of the remaining 70 seats, 45 are reserved for other ethnic communities and 25, called Open Constituencies, are elected by universal suffrage).
