An X-ray of the kidneys performed at the time of cys-toscopy using an X-ray dye, delivered to the kidney from the bladder, to enhance the image. Little, if any, of this dye actually enters the blood stream.
A special type of X-ray in which a small slender tube is placed through the bladder into the lower end of the ureter and contrast injected directly while an X-ray picture is taken. Although this procedure requires anesthesia or sedation, the technique gives a very clear picture of the ureters and kidney interior. Can be used safely even when patients are severely allergic to contrast because there is no contact with the bloodstream.
Retrograde Pyelogram is a urologic procedure where the physician injects contrast into the ureter in order to visualize the ureter and kidney. The flow of contrast (up from the bladder to the kidney) is opposite the usual flow of urine, hence the retrograde name.
