usually refers to a party, usually all night long, where loud "techno" music is mostly played and many people partake in a number of different chemicals, though the latter is far from necessary. At a rave, the DJ is a shaman, a priest, a channeller of energy - they control the psychic voyages of the dancers through his choice in hard-to-find music and their skill in manipulating that music, sometimes working with just a set of beats and samples, into a tapestry of mindbending music. A large part of the concept of raves is built upon sensory overload - a barrage of audio and very often visual stimuli are brought together to elevate people into an altered state of physical or psychological existence. A rave (sometimes referred to as a rave party) is an all-night dance event where DJs and other performers play electronic dance music and rave music. The slang expression rave was originally used by people of Caribbean descent in London during the 1960s to describe a party.Ironically, the term was even used in "Million Volt Light and Sound Rave," the name of an electronic music performance event held on 28 January 1967 at London's Chalk Farm roundhouse. The event featured Unit Delta Plus and a sound collage by Paul Mc Cartney, but no dancing.
Rave was a board game created by WOW Enterprises in 1991. The game is based on the subcultural dance movement of the early 1990s.
