Redundant Array of Independent Tapes. A concept of striping data in parallel to multiple tape drives, with or without a redundant parity drive. Provides high capacity, high data transfer rate and data integrity.
RAIT stands for RAID on Tape. RAID is a term that can be applied to disk, tape or optical media types or devices. To distinguish tape technology from disk or optical technology the industry has adopted the term RAIT to represent RAID on tape.
