Definitions for "Poling"
The process of reorienting crystal domains in certain materials by applying a strong electric field at elevated temperatures. Materials (usually ceramics) so treated exhibit piezoelectric behavior.
Process of aligning electric dipoles within a piezoelectric ceramic. The directions of the electrical and mechanical axes depend upon the direction of the original polarizing field. Poled elements exhibit a permanent (except for aging) positive strain in the direction between the poling electrodes and a permanent (except for aging) negative strain in the other directions.
Poling is a village and civil parish in the Arun District of West Sussex, England, located on a road to the south of the A27 road three miles (4.8km) east of Arundel. The village is small, although there are two Grade I Listed buildings: the parish church of St Nicholas, in the graveyard of which, Colin Cowdrey, the cricketing legend is remembered, and some remains of St John's Priory (founded by the Knights Hospitallers) alongside the main road. Many of the cottages are also Grade II listed.
To do less than one's share thereby rendering the other fellows more difficult. This term was also borrowed from Australian Bullock driving parlance. The "Polers," the pair of bullocks nearest to the pole of the wagon, are generally regarded as being not only the strongest, but next to the leaders the outest pair in the team, and therefore more inclined to take things easy and let the other bullocks do the pulling, if the driver is not observant.
