A camera with no interchangeable lenses. The lens is permanently fixed to the camera body. P&S cameras come with either zoom lenses, usually ranging from wide angles of 30mm to zoom ranges of upwards of 200mm in the more expensive types. Typical P&S camera are 38-70mm or 38-120mm.
A point-and-shoot camera, also called a compact camera, is a still camera designed primarily for simple operation. Most of them use autofocus or focus free lenses for focusing and automatic systems for exposure as well.
