A position in which the fencer's arm is extended, with the point of the blade threatening a target.
a fully extended arm - pointing toward the valid target of the opponent and must be in place prior to initiation of an opponent's attack and has the highest priority
A position by the defending fencer holding his arm straight from the shoulder and presenting the defending point directly at an attacker, offering to impale him. The point in line is a "defensive threat" and has the right of way until deflected.
