The movement of plasticizers from a plastic into an adhesive, face material, or both. This can cause degradation of the adhesive and bleed-through of adhesive components into the face material.
Migration of ingredients from there intended location. Migration of plasticizers from flooring materials can cause tackiness in floor finishes or adhesion problems. Migration from floor finish to flooring is also possible.
This is caused when a plasticizer in a floor mat or floor material transfers itself (migrates) into the floor finish or sealer. This is responsible for the discoloration sometimes found around or under floor mats.
A movement of a plasticizing ingredient through a mass from one surface to another surface. Plasticized PVC films often contain ingredients which can migrate into the adhesive coating of a tape causing it to soften and lose its cohesive strength.
Movement of plasticizer to the surface of a plastic, or from one plastic to another, or from a plasticized substance into the atmosphere; causes embrittlement.
The migration of the plasticizer in the flooring to the adhesive. This causes unwanted softening of the adhesive and may lead to release of the bond.
Loss of plasticizer from an elastomeric compound. It often migrates to the surface of the material where it is absorbed by another product or evaporates. This process causes the material to lose its flexibility and can contaminate other products.
The migration of liquid plasticizers from some plastics into an adhesive and/or face material. Often causes excessive softening or degradation of adhesives.
Loss of plasticizer from an elastomeric compound that is absorbed into the adhesive. The result is a softening of the adhesive to the point of adhesion failure.
Movement of plasticizer from a plastic (usually vinyl) into adhesive attached to it. Detrimental to the adhesive. Can cause adhesive failure.
When foil is stamped on PVC or other plastic products, the plasticizer migrates from the foil area to the surface of the plastic piece. The result is the metallic foil will fade.
