Pietermaritzburg is the capital and second largest city of the province of Kwa Zulu-Natal in South Africa. It was founded in 1838. Popularly called Maritzburg, and abbreviated PMB, it is home to a campus of the University of Kwa Zulu-Natal, and is a major producer of aluminium as well as timber and dairy products.
