Definitions for "Patties"
The patty is to Jamaicans what the hamburger is to Americans. Ask any Jamaican and he'll tell you his favorite patty stand; these include Tastee, JuicĂ, and Mother's. This fried pie is filled with either spicy meat or, occasionally, vegetables. We had beef, beef-and-cheese, and vegetable (callaloo) patties, as well as patties with coco bread.
Patties are a northern food, from the North-East of England, they are also sold in Scotland. They are thought to have originated in Kingston upon Hull, East Riding of Yorkshire, England where they are readily available.
