Definitions for "Patient compliance"
Correctly following all the instructions about a course of therapy as directed by the physician and other healthcare providers.
Not all patients follow the recommendations of physicians or nurses, often with more or less harmful results. Patients who chronically fail to do what is necessary to preserve their health pose some difficult ethical problems. It is not clear whether they impose the same obligations on others to provide care, nor is it clear to what extent they are responsible for their failure to comply with medical recommendations (for example, in the case of addiction).
