The region which is now the Punjab. Draupadi, heroine of the Mahabharata, was a Panchala princess. The oldest traditions pinpoint this region as the source of the ancient love teachings. The first human teacher of Kama wisdom, Svetaketu, came from Panchala.

Panchala (Sanskrit: पांचाल) corresponds to the geographical area between the Ganges River and Yamuna River around the cities of Kanpur and Varanasi.
